Integrating Parents Into Play Therapy: Three Models with Variations

About the Workshop

Parents are children’s greatest resource. When they are invited into the play therapy process, the results can be dramatic and include faster behavioral changes and better long-term outcomes. This workshop looks at three models – Family Play Therapy, Theraplay (™) and Filial Therapy, that have been used for decades to involve parents directly in their children’s therapy.

Overview, history and experiential exercises will highlight the strengths of each model. Case studies will be used to explore why one model might be chosen over another for a particular case. The workshop will also explore how these models might be adapted, combined with one another, or used in conjunction with non-directive play therapy to address complex cases.

Training will be in-person and limited to 8 participants. The ratio of participants to workshop leader is small to ensure opportunity to address individual questions, concerns and discussion. This course is designed for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, LEPs, pre-licensed associates and graduate mental health students.

This workshop and presenter have no conflict of interest in presenting the training nor is there any commercial support.
